Music Lessons – English Language

As a musician, Lena is an academic self-taught. She loves to teach and play piano and guitar, and for anybody up for a musical self-challenge theory stuff as well as ear training.

Academic? Yes!
Lena finished her Bachelor of Arts in Musicology/Sound Studies, and if that sounds quite theory heavy to you, then the reason should be, because it is. But is it not theory‘s sonority in itself which lays out new musical paths and challenges for us? Well, drama aside – in regards to her approach to music, Lena‘s perspective is built by a huge, theory-heavy tool box expressing itself in virtuoso improvisation, broad late-romaticism harmonies and a composer‘s heart as well as – the ability to appreciate.

Speaking of appreciation – self-taught? But yes indeed!
Lena plays instruments since childhood and got to acknowledge during her Bachelor‘s that studying and understanding can be two very different sides of the same coin. She got to acknowledge that appreciation is built on understanding – and that shows in her teaching-style. Her pupils might all be of a different background, have a different style or perspective on the matter; there is a reason for all of that. But asking, and asking in unison, on which ground someone lays their musical path, is continuing and broadening the mutual adventure.
Yet again, whilst appreciating any approach to music as well as provided with her theoretical tool box, Lena‘s didactic frame work is built upon maximum individalist teaching. This is the reason her teachings are indeed by the book. Yet, what that book is gets to be worked out with everybody quite individually, in a very literal sense. Of course there are common questions. There are so many different ideas and answers as well though, when it comes to such matters:

Where do you want to go from here? What is the ultimate goal of your musical journey?

Knowing how profoundly anybodys‘ love of music can get crushed by hostile teaching settings, and because she has worked in pedagogics, Lena likes to work out precise answers to these questions with her pupils. This way, not only your musical journey will continue, but we will create a common ground, a room for lessons and of safety, in which music helps to build up joy and self-efficacy.
